Alceo Tempranillo

An organically grown Tempranillo. Exuberant, rich and full of flavour!

Since 1870 and several generations later, the Bastida family has dedicated themselves to the world of wines. Their philosophy has always been to seek out unique plots across Spain to achieve the best examples of what that region is capable of. Bringing together a collection of knowledge and deeply rooted enthusiasm! Planted in 1950 by Antonio Bastida in La Mancha-Castilla, Alceo came about when an unusual rich pocket of limestone was discovered. It is this limestone in addition to a mix of sand, clay and small stone which give this wine its unique elevated profile by helping to keep moisture in the vineyard during dry summer months.

Alceo means Perseus, who was one of the three great heroes of Greek mythology before the days of Hercules. Alceo is produced from Tempranillo and displays an exuberant nose full of floral nuances, fine herbs, balsamic, ripe plums and mineral undertones. It begins softly on the palate and expressive ripeness balanced by a good acidity.

The wine is farmed organically. Once the grapes are harvested, they undergo a ten-day maturation on the skins and then sixteen days fermentation in stainless steel tanks. This produces a deeply coloured Tempranillo full of varietal character. The juice is then aged for 5 months in a mix of French and American oak which gives it a wonderful, sweet spice.
