Alves de Sousa Gaivosa Porto White 10YO
High quality White port. Perfect with blue cheeses or for an indulgent evening
Quinta da Gaivosa 10-Year-Old White Port has an amber colour. It is a wine that presents a great complexity, with several floral notes, spices, dried orange peel, maple syrup and almonds. It is full bodied and very well worked by time, combining the different aromas of fresh and young fruits, ageing in wood and a delicious acidity.
This white Port is produced by the traditional Porto wine method. This is the blend of the best Port wine's batches ageing in oak casks with an average of age of 10 years, produced from Malvasia Fina, Viosinho, Gouveio white grape varieties.
White Port is always a treat. A perfect option to pair with blue cheeses, and even desserts. The rich flavours provide a symphony of experiences. White Port is a must try for anyone who is looking to explore different and unique wines. You can have it on its own or if you want to water it down a little it works fabulously with tonic or soda water.
The Alves de Sousa family has been producing wines for several generations, initially suppling fruit and wine to other port companies. When Domingos Alves de Sousa inherited his family’s quintas in 1987, he began producing wine under the family name. After studying viticulture in Bordeaux and his native Portugal, acquiring additional properties and constructing a modern cellar at Quinta da Gaivosa, he released his first vintage in 1991. Since then, Domingos and his wines have gained critical acclaim.
Notably, he was named “Producer of the Year” by Revista de Vinhos in 1999 and 2007; he is the only person to have won this prestigious award twice. Today, Domingos and his son, Tiago, run the estate of five quintas producing both still and fortified wines.
