Arnaud & Stephanie Dezat Sancerre Rouge
A light and elegant Pinot Noir from Sancerre.
This delicate red has lovely, ripe fruit and undergoes judicious oak ageing. It is made from the Pinot Noir grape. The wine has an elegant, almost floral character on the nose. The palate is fresh and has lovely raspberry fruit.
Stephanie and her brother Arnaud Dezat are Firmin Dezat’s cousins and have taken 50% of the vineyard holdings when the André Dezat domain was divided up. They have built a modern winery on the edge of Verdigny and make the same style of wine as their father. Quite chalky in character with a more expressive nose and lemon acidity. Their reds have a vibrant, textured side which is very attractive, clean but juicy. Although not organic, brother and sister are very much in tune with nature, and the chai demonstrates a beautiful ‘living wall’ in the reception area.
The hilly vineyards of Sancerre have been renowned in France and internationally for many years. It covers a total area of more than 3,000 hectares, on the banks of the Loire. It is a historic vineyard in France, since the first traces can be found from the fourth century onwards in the writings of Pliny the Elder. Usually more known for its Sauvignon Blanc, its reds produced from Pinot Noir display an elegance and quality that will keep you coming back for more.
