Balla Geza kadarisszima
Deliciously sweet red from a historic region in Romania.
This kind of wine was first made in 1740 in Minis wine region, from kadarka grape variety. A few bunches of grapes are left on the yields after general harvest, and these slowly start to botrytize, transforming into "aszú". In order to make "szamorodni", healthy and botrytized bunches are harvested and vinified together “as they grew”. This dessert red wine fermented spontaneously and matured in barrels of 5000 l. In its smell the typical spicy Kadarka is mixed with a characteristic of sweet royal jelly. As for the taste ripe sour cherry, dark chocolate reveal and its soft, round tannin and acid balance perfectly the residual sugar content of almost 100 g.
Bella Geza has worked to re-establish and reinvigorate wines from Romania. Across the 144-hectare vineyard 80% red grape and 20% white grape is grown. Their philosophy is to emphasize the traditional grape varieties of Carpathian Basin. Growing white wine varieties such as Feteasca Regala (meaning Royal Maiden), Mustoasă de Măderat, an indigenous variety in Minis wine region and Furmint planted first in 2008. Among red wines Kadarka, Feteasca Neagra originally coming from inner-Transylvania were planted first in 2007. The winery is truly proud of the historically legendary red aszú vine, called Kadarisszima, which can be made in only the best vintages.
