Bodegas Taron Rioja Crianza
Delicate and full of fruit. A Crianza that exudes quality and goes down fabulously.
Bodegas Taron is a cooperative based in the northernmost part of Rioja Alta. The cooperative is made up of four small towns: Cuzcurrita de Rio Tiron, Sajazarra, Villaseca and Tirgo. These four towns decided that as they share not only the landscape but their culture too, they would benefit from pooling together their vineyards and knowledge to create one Bodega focussed on creating high quality Rioja`s. Bodegas Taron have 700 hectares of vineyards spread over more than 1000 small plots. Some of the oldest vines are over 100 years old.
Bodegas Taron have created this soft and attractive Crianza from a blend of Tempranillo and Mazuelo from their Rioja Alta vineyards. The wine displays a bright ruby red colour with intense aromas of fresh red berries, plum and cherry. The wine has been aged in American oak barrels for 12 months, with a further 12 months in bottle age. On the palate, subtle oak and smoked notes combine with a rich earthiness, spices, chocolate, redcurrant and cherry. The wine is well structured tannins with a long-balanced finish full of fresh red fruits.
Crianza is sort of the first tier of a “Reserve” wine. Spanish law requires that for a red wine to be labelled as a Crianza, it must be aged for two years, with a minimum of one year in an oak barrel and for another year in the bottle before it’s sold. As such Crianzas are a great option if you are after a fruity wine with subtle oak characteristics that play a minor supporting role.
