Carpineto Dogajolo Toscana Rosso

Easy drinking baby Super Tuscan.

Founded in 1967 by Antonio Zaccheo and Giovanni Sacchet, Carpineto farms 500 hectares of land spread over five estates among Tuscany's most prestigious appellations. Whilst the likes of Chianti Classico, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and Brunello di Montalcino sit firmly in their production, it's important not to ignore the winery’s pioneering approach to making wines from international varieties.

Dogajolo is an easy-drinking classic, blending Tuscany's native sour cherry toned Sangiovese with Bordeaux's Cabernet Sauvignon, making it a young 'Super-Tuscan'. Full bodied yet soft on the palate, with fruity cherry notes interlaced with coffee, vanilla and spice. This is complex and well-developed considering its price tag!

The grape varieties are vinified separately, since they ripen at different times. Toward the end of fermentation, they are blended and placed in small wooden casks where they slowly complete alcoholic and malolactic fermentation. It is excellent when young, but as with any good super Tuscan red, it ages well.

Sangiovese

Sangiovese

Italy’s most planted black grape and the pride of the Tuscan wine region, Chianti. Sangiovese is commonly labelled by its regional name rather than by variety, and you’ll often find it blended with other black grape varieties.

Sangiovese is a bit of a chameleon, taking on different stylistic expressions based on where it grows. From the delicate floral strawberry aromas of Montefalco Rosso to the intensely dark and tannic wines of Brunello di Montalcino, Sangiovese wine has something for everyone.

Producing dry wines with high tannins and high acidity, Sangiovese offers a wide range of tastes from very earthy and rustic to round and fruit-forward. Regardless of where it’s grown, it always has red fruit flavours (red cherry, red plum) with notes of tomato and dried herbs.
