Chateau La Tour De By
Classical and bold. An elegant Medoc with age
A sizeable and excellent property right up at the northern tip of the Medoc. La tour de By is a family-owned estate, and one of the famous names of the Medoc since the 16th century. It is the only property in the Medoc to be included as a Membre de L'Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux. The chateau is run by two of the grandsons of Marc Pagès, Frédéric Le Clerc and Benjamin Richer des Forges. The blend is made up of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot and is fermented in traditional foudres with a 4-week cuvaison. This is then followed by 16 months in new to 3-year-old barriques.
This classic Bordeaux blend is full of ripe red fruits, plum and blackberries with hints of spice and cedar wood. The very deep and intense red colour announces a beautiful maturity of the grape. With a very pure and complex nose that is dominated by notes of mature red fruits. On the palate, the round and ample profile is followed by a very rich and perfectly balanced tannic structure, which carries a long finish, excellent body and structure. All together this wine displays an excellent capacity for ageing.
The wines owe their success and reputation to the excellent gravel terroir, and to the old vines cultivated with environmentally friendly methods.
