Chateau Les Ormes de Pez
Complex and balanced Saint Estephe. Full of potential.
Château Les Ormes de Pez is one of St-Estèphe`s leading Cru Bourgeois properties.
Château Ormes de Pez belongs to the Médoc landscape since the 18th century. Located West of Saint-Estèphe and bordering the hamlet of Pez, the estate owes its name to a magnificent grove of elm trees, which no longer exists today. Château Ormes de Pez is the second property – after Château Lynch-Bages – acquired by the Cazes family in 1939.
With distinctive harmonious spicy character, Château Ormes de Pez is true to its terroir. Wine lovers appreciate its opulence, elegance and well-rounded structure. Its powerful, rich and excellent tannic backbone allows graceful ageing. With its deep garnet colour, Château Ormes de Pez offers fresh cherry and black fruit aromas with big, well-rounded tannins and a lingering freshness. A harmoniously balanced blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
There are 32 hectares of vineyards, which lie on soils rich in gravel on a subsoil of sand and clay. They are planted with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The grapes are hand-harvested and then fermented in temperature-controlled, stainless steel vats. The wine is then matured in a combination of one and two-year-old barrels from Lynch-Bages.
