Delavenne Pere & Fils Brut Tradition
A rich and opulent Champagne made with premium quality grapes.
A ‘Récoltant-Manipulant’ (meaning it is a Champagne from a grower-producer), family-owned since 1920 and with nice hectares of Grand Cru vineyards in Bouzy, Ambonnay and Cramant. The estate’s average vine age is fourty-five years, and the vineyard is managed in a holistic way without the use of herbicides or chemical fertilisers. Growth between the vines is encouraged and the grapes are entirely hand-harvested. Jean-Christophe Delavenne is President of the "Échevins de Bouzy" (fraternal order of Champagne Producers from Bouzy). Champagne Delavenne's elegant cuvées are served at many Michelin Starred restaurants across Europe.
This wine is classified as a Grand Cru Champagne which is created with specific techniques that allow each champagne to naturally express the terroir in its purest form. Taking a low-manipulation based philosophy they use single-village cuvées, specifically, only the coeur de cuvée (the best in the region) to make Delavenne's champagnes. A blend of two harvest years, the wine is made in stainless steel and enamel tanks (no oak). Wild, native yeasts are used. There is no malolactic fermentation or fining and restricted use of sulphur, this helps to retain the pure character of the base wine. Dosage is carried out using a liqueur created from a Solera system of Delavenne's own eleven vintage wines and cane sugar from the French Islands.
The wine is made up of sixty percent Pinot Noir and forty percent Chardonnay from vineyards harvested in 2013 and 2014. Displays a decadent profile of apple fritter, brioche, fresh apple and lemon drop. Perfect as an aperitif.
