Domaine Gaelle et Jerome Meunier Mercurey Village Rouge
A young and fresh Pinot Noir from Mercurey. Full of fresh and subtle flavour and a gentle oak quality.
Jérôme and Gaëlle both worked in the wine world before starting their own vineyard, Jérôme as ‘Régisseur’ (vineyard or winery manager) of a domaine in the Côte de Beaune and Gaëlle oversaw a wine laboratory. They have bought various parcels of land in and around Mercurey over the years and in 2007 bottled their first vintage under their own label. In 2011 after another winemaker retired, they took over 4 hectares of vines in Puligny-Montrachet to complete their estate.
The grapes for this wine come from two parcels in the heart of Mercurey. The soil is clay and limestone, and the grapes are hand harvested. Grapes spend ten to fifteen days fermenting in the tank before being put into French oak barrels (twenty percent new). Indigenous yeasts are used for fermentation and the wine spends ten months in the barrel before being blended and bottled.
Drinks superbly well when young. There are aromas and flavours of raspberry and strawberry and is ideal to drink with grilled red meats. The wine has benefited from its time in oak as the acidity is rounded and balanced with the rest of the palate. A wine which could be drank all year round and a great option for any lover of Pinot Noir. Can be kept for three to five years after bottling.
