Domaine Serol Eclat de Granite Cote Roannaise
Loire Gamay, full of elegance and freshness that rivals Beaujolais Cru.
At about an hour's drive from Beaujolais and on similar bedrock of granite, this is still gamay country and well capable of producing top-quality examples of the grape. Thanks to the long hot summers with just enough rain, this is quite delicious with its fleshy and refreshing cherry fruit.
Vinification occurs in cement tanks to maintain the fresh fruity profile of the wine. It undergoes 15 to 18 days of slow fermentation and maceration with indigenous yeasts only. Aged 6 to 10 months in cement tanks with racking to help soften the wines acidity.
Made from grapes on the family estate. Farmed biodynamically, on the eastern foothills of the Massif Central, close to the gorges de la Loire. Stéphane Sérol took over the estate from his father in 1996. With his wife, Carine, they selected the best potential terroirs of granite soils at high altitude (400 to 500 meters) and cleared the fields to replant vineyards. They naturally chose to plant the region’s indigenous, local grape variety: Gamay Saint Romain.
