Francois Villard Les Contours de Deponcins
Grown just outside the appellation limit of Condrieu, a stone’s throw away from the highly prized vineyards, this Viognier is equally as impressive.
François Villard’s `Les Contours de Deponcins` comes from a declassified vineyard next to the top notch De Poncin vineyard in Condrieu. So, whilst it cannot carry the same name and has just a lowly IGP status, the fruit is still of the utmost quality, from an exceptional site.
Coming from younger vines, the grapes are picked late to give extra body and complexity, yet they have a mineral intensity that counters the low acidity nature of Viognier.
Aged in old oak barrels, the wine has classic peach and apricot notes that meld seamlessly with aromas of honeysuckle, orange blossom and jasmine. Fragrant and full, racy and vibrant, this is exactly why François is considered one of Condrieu’s greatest winemakers.
