Hanewald-Schwerdt Gewurztraminer
German Gewurztraminer. Off dry and aromatically brilliant
This Gewürztraminer is a lovely example of off-dry aromatic wine. It carries a delicate scent of mango, lychee, and rose. Slightly sweet on the palate, it bursts with tropical fruit and spice, balanced by refreshing acidity.
Due to the rapidly warming soil, which is characterized by Rhine sand and river pebbles, the sites in the Dürkheim and Nonnengarten are among the earliest harvested in Bad Dürkheim. The sandy gravel soil with little water storage capacity produces concentrated Gewürztraminer grapes with great extract.
The family owned and operated estate Hanewald-Schwerdt was founded in 1955 in Leistadt. Today Thomas Hanewald & Stephan Schwerdt took over the family business which was established by their grandfather. The two cousins focus on Riesling and Pinot Noir. Pinot Blanc is the second most important white variety. The secret of their handcrafted wines is a unique limestone reef which dominates all the sites around Leistadt. A hidden treasure away off the beaten track. The vines are old and surrounded by a protected natural resort in the shade of the Haardt mountains.
