Indaco Tenuta Sette Cieli
Bold, silky and expressive. An amazing quality, fine Tuscan red.
Sette Cieli arrived on the Tuscan scene a few years after the boundary lines of the Bolgheri appellation had been drawn. Originally intended as a place to breed horses and a family retreat, they started to plant vines in 2000, and since 2012, the young Ambrogio Cremona Ratti who inherited the domain has been at the helm. He brought in winemaker Elena Pozzolini who came back to the area after several years of international experience in Argentina and California.
Bolgheri and Castagneto Carducci is on the Tuscan coast 1,300 above sea level. The 173-acre estate overlooks terraced vineyards and the Tyrrhenian Sea and is surrounded by the lush woods of Monteverdi Marittimo. Seventeen acres of high-density vineyards are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Malbec. Because of Tenuta Sette Cieli’s respect for nature, the winery has chosen organic practices to safeguard the environment.
Everything is done by hand in the vineyards, with careful attention to each detail. The journey continues in the cellar where the winery employs single-variety vinification. Fermentation starts with wild yeasts, and the final selection of the wines is done only after a period of barrel aging in French oak barrels. An outstanding blend of Cabernet, Merlot, and Malbec.
It's deep and lovely and concentrated, and so together, nice tight knit but open expression, with fine, structured but polished tannins. Brilliant with steak/roast beef. The Indaco is classy and polished to the core. Silky and beautiful and persistent. Full of energy and overall poise. Mocha, espresso and blackberry jam, licorice and lavender all integrated fabulously. This wine sings with varietal character and a subtle oaked quality.
