Justerini & Brooks Pomerol

A high quality non-vintage Pomerol

A classified blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc that is tipped to have come from some of the top producers in Pomerol.

The design and selection of their house range is quite literally, an ongoing project. Tastings are numerous and rigorous; their aim is to find wines that they believe are both representative of their origins and that have an extra quality over and above other competitors' equivalents. Wines that do not continue to produce the quality they expect they de-list.

The nose is classic Pomerol: spicy and deep, with plummy fruit and a smoothing caress of older oak barrel giving a cedary nuance. In the mouth, more of the same, with palate coating but smooth tannins, that dark fruit weight, and nicely balanced acid to offset the ripe, high alcohol richness. In summary it is plush, bold and jam packed with seductive alluring, plummy fruit, wrapped in cashmere tannins. Pop it in a decanter for a couple of hours and enjoy its luxurious charm.

Any roast would shine with this – lamb, beef, pork, veal, duck, chicken – but it goes way beyond these. Mushroom dishes, cheese, vegetable pies, gratins, macaroni cheese or duck confit and shepherd's pie are among countless possibilities. And while it's perfect to drink now, it could be kept a few years.
