Ktima Gerovassiliou Epanomi Viognier

Condrieu-esque Viognier, from northern Greece of all places.

We picked this up late to satisfy our appetite for delicious, perfumed Viognier and couldn't be happier at what we found. Expect beautiful stone fruit and the silky texture that this grape shows at its best. If you love Condrieu but don't want to pay through the nose, here's your answer.

Ktima Gerovassiliou Viognier Epanomi is a white wine from the Macedonia region in northern Greece. This wine is made from 100% Viognier grapes that are handpicked from the estate's vineyards. The nose of this wine is filled with tropical fruit aromas like peach, apricot, and pineapple, along with hints of floral notes. On the palate, this wine is medium-bodied with a smooth texture, and flavors of ripe pear, lemon, and spice. The wine has a refreshing acidity that balances the sweetness of the fruit flavors. This wine will pair well with seafood, grilled chicken, and salads. Overall, Ktima Gerovassiliou Viognier Epanomi is a delicious and complex wine worth trying.

Viognier

Viognier

Viognier is an aromatic white grape variety that originated in the Northern Rhône and is rapidly growing in popularity in California, Australia, and beyond. Depending on the producer and how it’s made, it will range in intensity from light with a touch of bitterness to bold and creamy. If you like Chardonnay, you’ll like the weight of Viognier and notice it’s often a little softer on acidity but oilier and more perfumed.

Typically full-bodied, and most loved for its floral aromas and stone-fruit flavours, you’ll find that some Viogniers are oak-aged to add a creamier taste with hints of vanilla.

Perhaps the finest example of Viognier can be found in Condrieu, an appellation in France’s Northern Rhône, which is dedicated to single-varietal Viognier. You’ll also find it in white blends as it will add floral notes and body to the wine.
