Kyperounda Petritis
Crisp, mineral white from Europe's highest vineyard.
Kyperounda is towards the top of the Troodos mountains in central Cyprus. The native grape Xynesteri, which with these levels of sunlight shows lovely candied citrus peel aroma, with the merest touch of vanilla from a portion of the wine ageing in new oak. Additionally, the wine has delicious aromas of citrus fruits, candied lime, lychee and a touch of spice and vanilla. A medium bodied yet refreshing wine with a long, persistent finish.
The Xynisteri variety is as delicious as it is difficult to pronounce (Sin-ees-ter-ee).
At a staggering 1400 metres above sea level, Kyperoundas Estate is home to the highest vineyards in Europe. The talented Minas Mina makes outstanding wines from his cool, craggy, rocky vineyards. The winery is fully equipped with state-of-the-art gravity fed winemaking equipment.
The gravity fed winery is built on three levels and is designed for the gentlest possible handling of the grapes and wine. The vinification took place in stainless steel tanks to maximise the purity of the fruit. 20% of the wine was then matured in one year old barriques for two months, adding subtle oak complexity to the final blend.
