Lamoreaux Landing Gewurztraminer

Aromatic American Gewurztraminer.

For three generations, this family has been growing grapes on the fertile soils along the east side of Seneca Lake. Today they have over 119 acres of planted vineyards separated into more than 20 different vineyard blocks. These holdings are managed using only sustainable winegrowing practices minimizing the use of synthetic fungicides, pesticides, fertilizers, fuel, energy and waste, to yield the finest lots of expressive and dynamic cool-climate varietals. Riesling, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Franc make up the majority of the vineyards at Lamoreaux Landing but they do also grow Gewürztraminer, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grüner Veltliner

This Gewürztraminer is picked at peak ripeness then cold soaked on its skins, extracting the maximum flavour and texture. Highly aromatic, this wine is packed with textbook honey and lychee. Pair it with Asian food and you won’t go far wrong.

Gewürztraminer

Gewürztraminer

Gewürztraminer’s homeland lies in the foothills of the Alps. It’s a pink grape, just like Pinot Gris/Grigio, that tends to perform better in cooler climates. The most famous region for Gewürztraminer is Alsace in France.

The variety has high natural sugar, and the wines are usually off-dry with a flamboyant bouquet of lychees. That’s not to say that all Gewürztraminers are sweet; they generally have a gram or two of residual sugar, but because of the heightened aromatics, higher alcohol, and lower acidity, many taste sweeter than they actually are.

Gewürztraminer is typically unoaked to preserve its floral (rose) aromas, and it is a wine that pairs very well to Asian and Middle Eastern cuisines. Off-dry examples can certainly stand up to some spice!
