Leeuwin Estate Art Series Shiraz

Leeuwin Art Series an iconic Western Australian Shiraz.

Located on the most south-westerly point of Australia, the Margaret River region sprang to life during the 1960s and 1970s because of Professor Harold Olmo’s and Dr John Gladstone’s research into its viticultural potential.

Leeuwin Estate in Margaret River are one of Australia's very best producers. While more famed for their Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, their Shiraz is a beautiful, slightly fresher and brighter expression of the grape. Out in the cooler, wetter conditions of Margaret River, there's almost an old-world feel to Shiraz, with elegance favoured over power.

Leeuwin Estate consistently produces wines that rank with many of the world’s finest. Under the direction of two generations of the founding family, who work alongside a dedicated team of winemakers to maintain the high levels of quality that are synonymous with the Leeuwin Estate. In 1972, legendary Napa Valley winemaker, Robert Mondavi, identified the future site of the Leeuwin vineyard as being ideal to produce premium wine and provided early mentorship to Denis and Tricia Horgan in the transformation of their cattle farm into Leeuwin Estate. Enjoying its first commercial vintage in 1979, Leeuwin was thrust into the international spotlight.

Syrah/Shiraz

Syrah/Shiraz

A rich, powerful, and sometimes meaty red wine that originated in the Rhône Valley of France. Syrah is the most planted grape of Australia, where they call it Shiraz, and the Barossa Valley is home to some of the oldest Syrah vines.

Syrah is responsible for some of the darkest full-bodied red wines in the world, and it has dark fruit flavours that go from sweet blueberry to savoury black olive. Grown across the globe, it can be used as a single variety or as part of a blend.

Old World Syrahs from Italy and France tend to have more acidity and earthy-herbaceous aromas. New World-styled Syrah wines from Australia, The U.S. and South America usually have more fruit-driven characteristics with lots of spice.

Some of the most famous (and most expensive) Syrah is from the 340+ acre Northern Rhône appellation called Hermitage. Elsewhere in the Rhône, you'll mostly find it blended with Grenache and Mourvèdre (GSM Blend).
