Lionel Osmin & Cie Cahors Malbec
Malbec from Cahors, Frances most famous Malbec producing region
This Cahors from Lionel Osmin is very typical of Malbec from Cahors – rich, full-bodied and concentrated with a wealth of blackcurrant and dark fruits, notes of clove-tinged spice and mediterranean herbs. Very dark colour, powerful and complex with superb tannins. This is a great match to a variety of dishes, especially confit duck, coq au vin and hard cheeses.
Born out of a love for the wines of the Southwest of France. Lionel Osmin et Cie aims to promote loud and clear the discovery of the unique grape varieties and terroirs of this region. From Jurançon to Cahors, from Gaillac to Bergerac via Marcillac, Lionel Osmin et Cie has become the only transversal signature of Southwest wines, these vineyards whose secrets have not all been revealed.
The result of the ranges of wines, with characteristics faithful to what our region is, but designed to share the joy of discovering the grape varieties and appellations that we love so much. Discovery, novelty and above all conviviality are probably the best adjectives to describe these Southwest wines that are produced.
The area around Cahors produces wine, primarily robust and tannic red wine. Wine from the Cahors appellation must be made from at least 70% Malbec (also called Cot, Auxerrois and Pressac). The typical Cahors wine is darkly coloured and has a meaty, herb-tinged aroma, with hints of spiced black cherries and a whiff of cedar. Cahors is invariably tighter and leaner than the rich, opulent style of Malbec being made in the variety’s new-found home in Mendoza, Argentina.
