Markovitis Alkemi Rose of Xinomavro
Xinomavro rosé at its finest. Don’t be afraid of its deep elegance!
Alkemi pays homage to the bolder, dark gastronomic rosé styles adored by Sommeliers the world over, but without the tickle of oak that these often come with. A fantastically rich and serious wine, capable of ageing well and providing a unique food pairing. Made from the iconic Greek grape Xinomavro, this is structured and spicy with pink grapefruit and floral notes. It also has a refreshing streak of acidity which means it’s moreish and drinkable whilst still being incredibly serious.
Marko's grandfather planted 24 hectares of the Xinomavro grape in 1970 in the foothills of Vermio mountain, on a gentle slope, between a forest of oaks. Markos utilises this wonderfully, crafting a broad range of styles from this wonderful grape that perfectly s why Greek wine should be demanding all our attention. Whether it’s a fragrant rosé like Alkemi, or deeply textured age-worthy reds, there isn’t much that Xinomavro can’t do!
Markovitis was the first winery in Greece to fully practice organic agriculture. As such the winery has established itself as a household name with a great following. This wine provides the perfect example as to why they deserve this great reputation.
