Paolo Petrilli Motta del Lupo

Puglian red from famous tomato farmers.

The certified Organic estate of the Petrilli family is more famous for its tomatoes, which go to some of the best restaurants in Italy, but their wine is pretty good too. This is their village wine, from the Cacc’e Mmitte di Lucera DOC, a name that refers to the time when locals would share a single winemaking cellar, having to take out, 'Cacc'e', the previous winemaker's load of pressed grapes, then putting in, 'Mmitte', their own. Predominately from the Nero di Troia grape, this is much fresher than the average Puglian red and we love it.

The Petrilli family are completely focused on sustainability and working with the land. Not only do the produce wine but they also grow tomatoes and wheat to make sauces and pasta respectfully.  In setting up production they have recovered native vines, renounced high yields per hectare and the use of chemicals to develop an eco-sustainable production system, in which to exploit the natural fertility of the soil and promote the biodiversity of the environment.
