Péter's Furmint hails from Tarcal – a single lot from the Mézes-mály Vineyard – considered a First Growth Tokaji plot. The wine is fermented in tank, then matured in a combination of new and used oak barrels, resulting in a balance of roundness and freshness. Floral, fruity, and spicy, this Furmint shows layer upon layer of stone fruit flavours like ripe white peach and juicy apricot that culminate in a long, refreshing finish with a full and waxy texture. This Furmint is a fantastic example of this variety.
Wines from the Peter winery are very telling of the terroir. The winery aims to showcase style that’s unique to the microclimate around Tarcal and Tokaj wine region. Located in Hungary’s Tokaj-Hegyalja region on the border between the villages of Tokaj and Tarcal, family owned and operated Péter Pincészet five hectares of vineyards.
From these come native Hungarian varieties like Furmint, Hárslevelű, Sárgamuskotály, Kövérszőlő, Zéta, and Kabar made in a variety of styles – dry, semi-dry, semi-sweet, and sweet. “Tokaj is my region,” says Péter Ákos. “It is home. I know every nook and cranny, I select the most promising fruit with strong hands and careful care, collecting the warmth of the sun’s rays and the power of the wind, refining what nature has given us into wine.”
