Ramos Pinto Vintage Port
Vintage Port at its best. Dark, powerful and seductive
An exceptional dark colour with blue tones. It presents a complex array of aromas that combines red fruit compote, ripe plum and small-berried fruits with notes of dark chocolate and pepper. Elegant and well-structured on the palate, extremely full-bodied and full of fruit flavours, a good concentration and firm tannins that will give it great aging potential. With an amazing warm finish, that is long-lasting and velvety.
Founded in 1880, Ramos Pinto uses grapes from its own estates. Ana Rosas, the Master Blender of the House meticulously crafts each port. This Port is made with the best grapes from Bom Retiro, Urtiga and Ervamoira. More specifically, Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional and Tinto Barroca. Made only in years of outstanding quality.
The Vintage 2000 is made in the traditional method, with all grapes crushed by foot in large stone troughs called Lagares. The human foot is said to be the perfect tool for extracting juice from a grape. It applies just enough pressure to gently release the juice without extracting any harsh bitter flavours from the pips, skins or stalks. Sometimes the old ways are the best!
Ramos Pinto mature their Vintage Port in an array of media for 20 months prior to bottling. Large old oak, chesnut and, even, mahogany casks are used imparting a myriad of flavours and aromas.
Ramos Pinto continue to be, and have been, pioneers and innovators in the world of Port.
