Thorle Riesling Feinherb
Classic German Riesling. Off dry and fabulously fresh!
One of Thorle`s estate wines, grown in vineyards around Saulheim. The soils are characterized by limestone sediments and loess-loam layers. After selective harvesting in several steps, the berries are lightly crushed in the cellar and left in their juice for 4 hours to achieve better aroma extraction. The must was fermented "spontaneously" in the stainless-steel tank with natural yeasts from the vineyard for 6 weeks and bottled in April after a long 6-month full yeast storage.
The Riesling Feinherb from Weingut Thorle is a beautifully poised off-dry style of Riesling with a bright yellow colour. The bouquet offers up scents of peaches and apples, limestone and a touch of wild yeasts. On the palate the wine is medium-bodied with fine intensity of flavour, bright acidity, nice focus and a complex finish.
Christoph and his brother Johannes have worked together since 2006 when they left their jobs to take over the family domaine in Saulheim, a little village inland from Oppenheim and the mighty Rhine. The vineyards lie on a mixture of light clay, limestone red sandy loam and in places flint and schist. All vineyard management is now undertaken organically with a move to biodynamic imminent.
