Verdier Logel Cote Forez Volcanique
Light, elegant and organic Gamay from Loire.
This cuvée is a great classic of the estate where the terroir gives the grape variety a character different from its most common expressions. The typical fruitiness of Gamay is present, it is however dominated by warmer notes that evoke smoke and pepper. Similarly on the palate, the profile of a light, tender, acidic wine fades away in favour of a palate structured by tannins reinforcing the smoky sensation.
The wine is labelled as Côtes du Forez AOC, which forms a part of the upper Loire wine region. Côtes du Forez is the appellation for red and rosé wines from 17 communes in the western Rhône-Alpes administrative region of France. They are made entirely from the Gamay variety. The wines are light in body, low in tannin and very much reliant on their fresh, vibrant fruit flavours. They bear all the hallmarks of classic Gamay vinified through carbonic maceration and are best consumed within a few years of vintage. The style is therefore very similar to that of Beaujolais, less than 50 miles to the northeast.
